Community Quilt – “What the Tyvola Senior Center Means to Me”

Charlotte Quilters’ Guild members together with Seniors and Staff from the Tyvola Senior Center met on May 14-15, 2024 to design blocks for a Community Quilt. This large wall hanging is entitled “What the Tyvola Senior Center Means to Me.” The project was inspired by our guest lecturer Maria Shell’s community quilt process and was led by CQG members Becka Tait (Community Education Chair), Susan Scott (Outreach Chair), and Kim McElroy. Special thanks to Marie Joyce for finishing the binding and to Quilt Patch Fabrics for generously donating the quilting for this piece. Each participant designed her own block using fusible appliquĂ© and markers, and each showed the love and appreciation they have for the Center. Many CQG members helped prepare fabric for project workdays. Thank you to all who participated!

The quilt was unveiled and presented by CQG to the Tyvola Senior Center on June 26, 2024. It is on display at the entrance to the Health Unit. Special thanks to our Hospitality Chair Pat Hopkins who supplied the refreshments for the event.

Come take a look at this beautiful community quilt on your next visit to the Tyvola Senior Center!
